I wanted to share a little bit of my journey on taking better care of myself. I also wanted to share because often, what you see shared is someone who just has a straight-line amazing path to better weight, fitness, six-pack abs, etc. I have done none of those things :)

What I have done is focus on the process. Establishing a good habit, then anchoring other good habits around the good habits I have. Over time it is working, though I have certainly had ups and downs with the process and my adherence to it :) My main conclusion is that you need to focus on the psychology of your self-improvement plan, not the outcome per se. In other words, how do you feel when you have a "bad" day (ate too much, exercised too little, or got sick?) - strategies to keep your motivation through those low points are critical.
